4 Ways to Store Jewellery to Avoid Tarnish and Tangles

We all know that feeling, when you are in a rush to get ready, you've finally decided on an outfit and there is just one thing missing; that necklace, that one you haven't worn for a while. You open your jewellery box and surprise, surprise. It is tangled, tarnished or both! What a pain in the @$#!

Alidika feels your pain and we're here to help with a few tips on how to avoid this problem in the future.

1. Place each piece of jewellery in a small see through sealable plastic bag.

It might not look pretty but it does the job! This will definitely help with the tarnishing as well as the tangling. They are super easy to find, just go to your local beads or arts and crafts store or find them online.

2. Buy a compartmental plastic sewing box.

These things are great! You can get them pretty cheap and they organise your jewellery beautifully while keeping all your pieces separate. You can even categorise each box for jewellery that you wear regularly and jewellery that you wear less often, or going out and day/work jewellery.

3. Clean and dry jewellery before storing.

Sterling silver tarnishes due to humidity. So giving your jewellery a clean before storing them using one of the above methods will definitely help reduce tarnish. It doesn't have to be a huge job! Just wash under some luke warm water and dish soap then dry it with a soft cotton cloth.

4. Buy a silver jewellery polishing cloth.

I know it isn't something most of us have in our drawers, but we should! It is an easy way to quickly get rid of tarnish and to brighten up that beautiful piece of jewellery. Find them online for cheap! Just remember to not wash your cloth as this gets rid of the special chemicals that remove the tarnish.
